Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball sends off seniors with 146-130 win over Spalding

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's basketball team honored seniors Dustin Bankowski, Kameron Vinsel, Phillip Curtis, Henry Johnson, and Isiah Dortch in a pregame ceremony before dismantling Spalding 146-130 in a SLIAC win on Saturday in Greenville.

The five seniors entered Greenville University as either first year freshmen or transfer students but connected to extend the history of the GU men's basketball program while dealing with unprecedented challenges.

Saturday's game saw the Panthers take a commanding 83-63 lead into halftime. Spalding shaved away a portion of the deficit, but the Panthers were ultimately too much for the Golden Eagles to overcome.

Vinsel ended the game as GU's leading scorer with a 21 point outing. He made 7-of-10 three-pointers in the game.

Ralph Jalnaiz was close behind Vinsel with 19 points, and Jarred Johnson added 18 points.

Kenneth Cooley had a 15-point game, and Phillip Curtis chipped in 14 points.

Travis Dickey added 12 points, Romello Ball had 11 points, and Henry Johnson produced a 10 point effort.

GU's Curtis just missed a double-double with nine rebounds, and Bankowski was one basket shy of a double-double himself with eight points and 11 assists.

Greenville's suffocating defense was on display all afternoon, and the Panthers forced 39 turnovers while collecting 28 steals. Jalnaiz led the way for GU in steals with six, and Johnson added five steals.

The Panthers (4-10, 4-3 SLIAC) currently hold the fourth place position in the SLIAC standings, and they will travel to fifth place Iowa Wesleyan on Wednesday for an important game between the fourth and fifth place teams.
